Opportunity Neighborhoods

Global Detroit’s Opportunity Neighborhoods Program acknowledges that low-income immigrants face distinct challenges upon arrival, particularly as they begin to navigate a new language and systems to access basic needs services, municipal services, employment, entrepreneurship, and homeownership. While the source of the challenge might be different, we find that longstanding Detroiters face similar obstacles.

To stimulate community prosperity across the region, we believe that Detroit’s most distressed neighborhoods require a response that is as complex as the challenges that got them here. Our community development work braids place-based community organizing and development with asset building to foster engaged communities that are inclusive of immigrants and African Americans, connecting them with the information, tools and opportunities that help them thrive.
